Quantity Surveyor
The Role
The role of the Quantity Surveyor is to prepare an effective and efficient estimating and valuation service to the contracting division.
Desirable Knowledge and experience
- Formal qualifications such as a degree in quantity surveying or property related subject
- Membership of RICS or equivalent
Essential Knowledge and experience
- Previous experience in similar role
- Ability to communicate at all levels
- Self-motivation and ability to work unsupervised
- Ability to work methodically and work to tight deadlines
- Knowledge of the relevant legislation and industry trends
Responsibilities
- To prepare monthly valuation applications within set timeframes
- To calculate costs associated with contract variations
- To prepare final accounts ready for submission
- To liaise with other staff and personnel on cost expenditure
- To investigate and reconciliate cost variances
- To liaise with appropriate personnel and maintain good working relationships
- To liaise with clients to agree specifications
- To obtain agreed contract valuation dates
- To ensure correct instructions are received from clients for additional works
- To assist the Freeman Contracting Senior Manager with all tasks as instructed
- To manage sub-contractors
- To complete all required internal paperwork associated with contract work
- To attend regular project meetings
- To identify opportunities and communicate them to higher management
- To perform duties as Quantity Surveyor in accordance with the company's current Health and Safety policy and procedures
- To undertake any duties that reasonably fall within the scope of the job
- To carry out all duties at the request of the directors
- To continuously improve processes relating to the role
- To execute instructions received from higher management and be committed to their completion.

Main Challenges
The main challenges for the Quantity Surveyor are:
- To ensure that the interim valuations and final accounts are submitted in a timely manner
- To ensure that the budgets and tenders produced are accurate and meet our profit targets
