Glastonbury’s off but Newnham is live and rocking

Newnham Live

While festival lovers may be disappointed that Glastonbury is taking a fallow year in 2018, the Gloucestershire village of Newnham-on-Severn is making preparations to host a six day music festival. With performers travelling from as far as Mumbai to be included, St Peter’s Church will be the hub of activity 7th – 16th June.

The festival kicks off with Devonian twins, The Carrivick Sisters, performing folk and country harmonies and continues with the unique, ground-breaking British – Indian blues group Michael Messer’s MITRA for an inspired meeting of musical cultures. The legendary folk-rockers Fairport Convention take centre stage on Saturday 9th and the following Friday, Fairport fiddler Ric Sanders is joined by guitarist Vo Fletcher for a night of jazz and blues. But it’s not all folk, blues and rock ‘n’ roll, baroque acoustic Red Priest brings some 18th century melody and panache to St Peter’s. The big finale to the festival will be provided by the rhythmical, joyful and virtuoso style led by the talented boogie-woogie pianist Dino Baptiste with his roof raising band Night Train.

Sponsored by local property developer Freeman Homes, the festival is being organised by volunteers who promise a festival full of exciting and fun performances by this magnificent line-up of talented musicians.  Funds raised from ticket sales will be split between the Forest of Dean Great Oaks Hospice and the restoration of St Peter’s Church bells, and future community projects and events.  Newnham Live is definitely an event not to be missed.

Freeman Homes Joint CEO, Luke Freeman said, “We are delighted to be the headline sponsor of Newnham Live.  The village of Newnham has a really strong community and there’s always a lot going on.  We are delighted to be involved with the festival and look forward to building a new development on the edge of Newnham next year.  As a family owned business finding the right locations is top of our priorities.  We want to build homes in places we would like to live and Newham is certainly high on our list. “
