What are this year's 'home essentials' for buyers and sellers?

At the end of 2019, GoCompare conducted their annual ‘Homes Essentials’ survey, revealing what is really important to home buyers searching for their ideal new property. There have been some movements in this year’s list, demonstrating that buyers are shifting away from aesthetic considerations – period features, an open fireplace and other ‘character’ elements are at the bottom of the pile – towards more practical concerns like central heating, good insulation and secure windows and doors.

The 2020 top five ‘must haves’ look like this:

  1. Central heating
  2. Double glazing
  3. Secure windows and doors
  4. A garden
  5. A good, reliable broadband signal

Location factors are also of interest, including ‘Local shops and amenities’ at number seven on the list, and the global shift towards a more environmentally conscious lifestyle is also reflected, with ‘A good energy efficiency rating’ at number eight.

We are proud to be able to say that our current and upcoming developments tick off all twenty items on the list, with the exception of one of our 2-bedroom homes, which has a combined living/dining area. You can see our full specification in our development brochures, but all our houses include: energy-efficient boilers; central heating; double glazed windows; a garden with turf, fencing and patio; a high level of insulation; at least one en suite bathroom; a WC downstairs; and off road parking, all of which feature on the ‘must haves’ list.

You also get a wide range of choices as standard, including flooring, tiles, kitchen units, worktops and handles. There are upgrade options to give you a choice of additional appliances, bathroom furniture, mirrors, electrical sockets, TV and satellite and security systems too!
