    Wildlife Friendly Features

A home for wildlife and for you

Green open spaces, planting, ecology landscaping and wildlife-friendly features boost biodiversity, supporting local wildlife and your wellbeing.

  • Hedgehog-friendly fencing allows hedgehogs to roam freely in search of food and mates. Hedgehog houses provide shelter and somewhere to nest.
  • Our planting is designed to create future flight paths for wildlife, especially bats that use tree lines and the tree canopy as corridors to commute across habitats.
  • Both integrated and stand alone bird boxes and bat boxes provide a home for nesting birds and their fledglings, and a place for bats to roost. Bee bricks support solitary bees and insects.
  • Hedgerows, green open spaces, planting and wetlands help create wildlife corridors that connect with the surrounding countryside, allowing wildlife to move freely and safely between them
  • Our wildlife-friendly show gardens feature RHS plants for pollinators, providing forage for pollinating insects.

Stargazing from your front doorstep

We support The Wye Valley Society's Dark Skies Project that aims to raise understanding of the importance of dark skies through awareness campaigns, public events, and an education programme to combat light pollution.

In addition to our wildlife-friendly, downward-directed external lighting, we consider the orientation of properties and positioning of doors and windows, to protect the woodlands and wildlife buffer zones within and surrounding our environment. This reduces light pollution, and also makes for spectacular stargazing on a clear night.

Wetlands for wildlife

Our wetlands are supported by sustainable drainage systems that mimic natural processes. Wetlands support wildlife and filter water so it is cleaner when it finally reaches a drain. In one of our locations alone we planted 1,785 wetland marginal plants, and 1,638 sqm of species-rich wetland seeding.
