How to make your move easier

In an effort to make moving easier, Freeman Retirement Living have come up with their top ten tips to consider when moving. Hayley Coombs, Sales and Marketing Senior Manager for the MF Freeman Group of Companies, said “Location usually tops the list of priorities for people looking to move but other factors usually high on the list include quality and specification of build as well as value for money.”

“Our homes provide the perfect lifestyle choice for people looking to downsize but who still want well proportioned, spacious rooms together with security, peace of mind and convenience.  We hope our Top Ten Tips provide a starting point for those who are considering a move.”

1. Location – location is key.  It’s important to consider where you want to be.  Close enough to walk to town?  Within easy reach of public transport?  Far enough out of town so you can still enjoy the quiet semi-rural location?  Beautiful walks on your doorstep?  Near to family and friends?

2. Specification – it’s essential to choose a new home with everything you will ever need.  So what will you need?  High quality kitchen appliances?  Eye level oven?  Spacious rooms?  Flexible accommodation?

3. Community – it is usual to want to be part of a community whilst still enjoying your independence.  Do you want to be surrounded by like-minded people?  How about a communal summer house in the gardens to meet friends and neighbours for a natter?

4. Estate Manager – an estate manager will take care of maintaining communal areas and can assist with arranging any additional help you need around your home.  It gives peace of mind and saves you a lot of worry.

5. Repairs and Maintenance – how much does your home cost you in repairs and maintenance?  A new build often means substantial savings when compared to your large family home.

6. Lower running costs - new homes are also better insulated and so your energy costs are likely to be much lower.  Don’t forget to consider any service charges (which are likely to cover buildings insurance for leasehold properties, window cleaning, grounds maintenance and communal energy and water usage) or ground rents which may be applicable to your new property.

7. Security – we all want the comfort in knowing that our property is safe and secure.  New builds incorporate the latest secure locking systems to windows and doors.  Video entry systems ensure that visitors can only come into the development if invited!

8. Flexible accommodation – we never know what the future holds but should your circumstances change its reassuring to know that your new home has been designed so that converting the dining room into an en-suite bedroom will be a breeze, not to mention the wiring that has been installed should you ever require a stair lift.

9. Equity – downsizing may allow you to release equity for you to enjoy your retirement but ensure you take advice from a financial advisor to invest it wisely.

10. Peace of Mind – Freeman Retirement Living links all its homes to a 24 hour care line should you ever need emergency assistance.  That, plus the benefit of the estate manager will provide total peace of mind.
